You can use your magic remote to control other compatible devices in your home. You don't need to keep multiple remote controls for your setup box, home theater or sound bar. Use any of the options below to program your magic remote as a universal remote control.
Note: Universal control works on MAGIC REMOTES ONLY. It is not applicable to standard remotes.
-
MAGIC remote controls have a trackball in its center and displays like a computer mouse's pointer on the TV screen.
-
STANDARD remote controls are flat, and they do NOT display a movable pointer on the screen.

Initial setup for universal control.
-
On the magic remote, press HOME, then select press DEVICE CONNECTOR.
-
From here, the prompt is very easy to follow. Select the device you want to setup from the provided list. If the type of your device is not available, you will need to contact the manufacturer to ask if it supports universal control with LG magic remote.
-
Select corresponding INPUT port, manufacturer, service provided or required information about the device and press NEXT.
-
Now this is the tricky part. These next steps require you to use your remote as a pointer to choose the appropriate ON SCREEN commands. The command buttons displayed on screen will serve as a TEST to confirm your universal control setup.
-
To begin, you will see Remote Type 1 on screen, with 3 command buttons below it, as well as a test window to view the results of each command.
-
Command buttons include actions such as POWER, PLAY, CH^, NUM 1, or PAUSE.
-
Point your cursor to the first command button on the screen. Click it. Did the test window correspond to the command?
-
Now, move the cursor to the next command button on the screen. Click it. Does the test window respond again? And so on.
-
-
Click NEXT to move forward and confirm your setup.
NOTE: Do not press the button on the remote, use the cursor/pointer to press from on the screen.
-
-
If the ON SCREEN commands did not work in the test window, then change the remote type.
-
Use your cursor to point to the > right arrow and click it. You will now test Remote Type 2 following the ON SCREEN command buttons beneath.
-
Keep following the process above until you find the remote type that configures your universal control successfully.
-
If none of the remote types correctly controlled your external device, you may need to contact your device manufacturer for configuration and programming instructions and remember, not all external devices will be compatible for universal control.
If the test result does NOT correspond.

Do you see a NO SIGNAL message on your TV? This means that the TV isn't getting an input signal, from the currently selected source! Watch this introduction video about Why No Signal appears on my TV.
Troubleshooting Tips
-
Try switching to each other input, maybe the ports aren't labeled correctly.
-
Try connecting the HDMI cable into a different Input port, maybe the port is malfunctioning.
-
Try connecting a different device to the TV (or the same device to a different TV), maybe the other devices causing the issue.
-
Try using a different HDMI cable, sometimes cables can short-out, or degrade over time.
-
Some devices may have compatibility issues, such as some of the new 4K Blu-ray Players connected to our 4KTVs. It's possible the HDMI HDCP Handshake may be timing out (rare, but it could happen).

Connection Checklist
-
Change input source with remote.
-
If your Remote has an Input/Source button , press it and choose the input from the list that matches where your device is connected.
-
If your remote Does Not have an input/source button, press the Home button , then look in the Upper-Right corner of the TV for the Input icon , and click it.
Note: If your Inputs have labels, as shown below, click All Inputs to see the Port numbers.
-
-
Pay attention to IN and OUT.
The cable needs to come OUT of the other device, and IN to the TV. The Input port of the TV will be labeled (HDMI 1, Cable/Antenna, etc.).
Important: In and Out is an important distinction. A port labeled OUT, will Send a signal, while a port labeled IN will Receive a signal.
-
Set the TV to the correct source.
The TV must be tuned to the correct input in order to view the programming of each device.
-
Are you connecting with an antenna or other external device?
with Antenna with other External Devices -
x
A common issue with using an antenna is that they are so easily moved, and may not find the same channels (even in a slightly different position).
-
Run Auto-Tune.
-
If the channel you want to watch isn't found by auto-tune, add the channel manually.
-
Channel Tuning can differ by TV model, but in general:
-
Go to Settings
-

-
-
After adding the channel manually, adjust your antenna until the channel comes in.
-
On some models, you can see the Signal Strength/Quality during Manual Tuning.

Connecting multiple devices into corresponding input ports must be matched for compatibility.
Check the label of the Input port.
Note: If you have multiple devices connected, make sure to follow the wires from the device to the TV to make sure you're looking at the correct input port.
-
If your Remote has an Input/Source button , press it and choose the input from the list that matches where your device is connected.
-
If your remote Does Not have an input/source button, press the Home button , then look in the Upper-Right corner of the TV for the Input icon , and click it.
Note: If your Inputs have labels, as shown below, click All Inputs to see the Port numbers.
